When No Love Lost dropped, I didn’t even want to believe he let me down so I bought it, thinking there’s no way Joe turned into an industry rapper. It was Padded Room and Pray For Me that really solidified me as a Joe Budden fan and I can say that I religiously bought Joe Budden albums because musically he never let me down. He lyrically explains his mental health, addiction and conquests with women. Joey raps about things real people can identify with. At any low point in my life, Joe Budden was the soundtrack of my daily routine. Joe Budden’s music saved me in a lot of ways. Joe was able to capture fans by the masses by connecting to the ugly parts of ourselves that we otherwise wouldn’t want to acknowledge. He’s not here to propose to Tahiry on national television for ratings even though he and Tahiry weren’t even speaking at that time. He’s not here for the industry, he’s not here to do things for the approval of other people. Joe Budden is an “against the grain” artist. This was not the Joey I supported since Padded Room, this was against everything he stood for in my mind. For me, it took something away from his authenticity. You probably tweet him like “wtf, are you doing Joey?” I love me some Love and Hip-Hop, but it definitely changed the way I approached Joe Budden’s music once I saw him on the show. If you’re an actual Joe Budden fan, you probably don’t even watch Love and Hip-Hop. Joey is the only rapper that I can’t support having bandwagon fans because he’s too real. One thing about Joe Budden fans is that we want you to know we were down with Joe before Love and Hip-Hop. All Love Lost appears to be the return of the Mood God, something Joe Budden fans have been waiting for since he entered the world of reality TV. Joe Budden debuted the finale of the Love Lost trilogy, as the cover of the album states, on October 16, 2015. I don’t know if this is intentional or even just something I am imagining, but it’s very fitting. It sounds refreshing, but yet the moments of electronic beats don’t sound any less fresh and catchy. Raury seems to give things a more synthetic quality when when he starts talking about the Internet or love, and keep it classic with instruments when he’s talking about the state of the world. The music marching his lyrics along features that classic instrument that we don’t hear enough of nowadays very heavily. Some may say this is sad, but in 2015 the thing I notice most about Raury’s album is the guitar. From there, multiple tracks follow that could be the background music for a peaceful protest-but not without swag. The opening track asks who will save the world my friend? And dives into an alternate universe of singing, guitar and rapping. This album fluctuates between being a Woodstock-era folk song for the Black Lives Matter movement and a Def poetry jam session for millennials. All We Need is the first official album from Raury, a kid from Georgia who encompasses everything positive about his (our?) generation.
